Gira-Discos

O projeto de criação de um olhar panorâmico sobre a carreira de David Bowie conclui-se agora “I Can’t Give Everything Away (2002–2016)”, sexta e última desta série de caixas, contando desta vez com 13 discos na versão em CB e 18 LP na caixa em vinil. 

A caixa junta os álbuns de estúdio “Heathen” (2001), “Reality” (2003), “The Next Day” (2013) e “Blackstar” (2016), propondo assim um percurso entre a produção de nova música (para o formato de álbum) no século XXI. Um percurso que só não foi mais recheado em acontecimentos dado o longo hiato, de praticamente uma década, que separou o momento de urgência médica que obrigou a cancelar as restantes datas da Reality Tour e o regresso, para surpresa geral, ao som de “Where Are We Now?”, o single lançado em janeiro de 2013 que anunciou que o silêncio tinha terminado e um álbum novo vinha a caminho. Esta etapa reflete etapas de reencontro de Bowie com ecos do seu próprio passado, com “Heathen” a evocar heranças diretas da “fase berlinense”, “Reality” a destapar um flirt de reaproximação com o jazz (que estava na sua formação como saxofonista) na faixa final do álbum, “The Next Day” a reafirmar um fulgor rock que o tinha animado tanto em momentos dos anos 70 como no período vivido entre os Tin Machine e o final “Blackstar” a revelar um desafiante mergulho entre diálogos com novas linguagens jazzísticas.

A caixa, tal como as anteriores, documenta a vida nos palcos, aqui recuperando o disco ao vivo “A Reality Tour” (com novo alinhamento que procura ser mais próximo do que de facto aconteceui em concerto ) e junta um inédito: “Montreux Jazz Festival”, registo ao vivo captado em julho de 2002. Na verdade este álbum ao vivo captado em plena digressão que se seguiu a “Heathen” e pelo qual se confirma a criação de uma ponte rumo a memórias da vida em Berlim nos anos 70, corresponde à única novidade absoluta desta nova edição.

O restante alinhamento da caixa inclui os EPs “The Next Day Extra” de 2013 (com material das sessões do álbum desse ano, já lançado num repackage do disco, do qual se destaca a versão longa de “Love Is Lost”, por James Murphy, que evoca o “Clapping Music” de Steve Reich e cita “Ashes to Ashes”) e ainda “No Plan”, este com as gravações finais de Bowie, editado já 2017. Seguindo a norma de todas estas caixas, surge ainda aqui um sexto volume da série “Re:Call” com lados B, singles não representados em álbuns. Estão aqui lados B (como uma versão de “Love Missile F1-11” dos Sigue Sigue Sputnik ou uma de “Waterloo Sunset” dos Kinks), faixas apresentadas em repackages de álbuns (com contribuições de nomes como Moby ou os Air) ou as raras gravações ao vivo realizadas no longo hiato entre 2003 e 2013, como a que Bowie registou no Central Park ao lado dos Arcade Fire ou, no Royal Albert Hall, com David Gilmnour, aqui recriando o mítico “Arnold Layne”, dos Pink Floyd.

O ciclo de caixas abriu em setembro de 2015 com “Five Years (1969–1973)”. Seguiu-se, um ano depois, “Who Can I Be Now? (1974–1976)”. E, depois, “A New Career in a New Town (1977–1982)” em 2017, “Loving the Alien (1983–1988)” em 2018 e, em 2012, “Brilliant Adventure (1992–2001)”. Todavia, tal como ficou claro em edições de arquivo recentes como “The ‘Mercury’ Demos” (2019, “Conversation Piece” (2019), “The Width of a Circle” (2021), “Divine Symmetry: An Alternative Journey Through Hunky Dory” (2022) ou “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star!” (2024), a história da arqueologia no arquivo de David Bowie ainda terá muito para nos continuar contar…
